The Eighteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution outlawed the manufacture, sale, and transportation of intoxicating liquors. From the time it became law in 1919 to its repeal thirteen years later, the era of Prohibition was defined by the closing of saloons and breweries and the removal of alcohol from public life and into the shadow of the black market.

Charcuterie Demonstration at Hunter's Ridge Winery - March 14th

Hunter's Ridge Winery is excited to announce that they will be hosting a Charcuterie event alongside Sirocco Ridge Farm and K&B Liberty Farms!

 

Hunter's Ridge is putting together a tasting menu pairing Sirocco Ridge's delicious premium goat cheese with K&B Liberty Farm's delicious premium meats and of course, and their delicious wine! They will talk through the food and wine pairings while also giving some background on these amazing local farms.

 

You will also have the option to buy additional products from each vendor after the event. This event is from 3:00pm - 4:30pm on Saturday 3/14 and limited to 25 people.

Awareness Washington County Chili Cook Off - March 14th

 

The Annual Chili Cook Off will be held at Southern Hills Church in Salem. Sample some of the areas best tasting Chili recipes and vote on your favorites. Admission fee contributes to the mission of AWC. 


‍Awareness Washington County (AWC) was founded in 1982 with an eye to the future of Washington County. Knowing that everyone is a leader and equipped with leadership qualities, AWC educates a small group of leaders annually and sends them out into the community to implement their leadership skills. The AWC program is designed to motivate and encourage community based leadership throughout Washington County.

‍The John Hay Center invites you to a supplemental program to go along with our temporary exhibit.

 

Patoka Lake’s Master Distiller Alan Bishop will be visiting us at The Stevens Memorial Museum Basement to give a prevention on the history of distilling in Southern Indiana. He will be able to provide a unique insight in how Prohibition effected small communities like ours.

 

This event will begin at 1PM.

Admission: $10 for WCHS Members $12 non-members
