March Special Events


Celebrate the month of March with a trip to the 33rd Annual Maple Syrup Festival. Don't forget the national holidays including National PI Day on March 14th (3/14) and wear green on March 17th in honor of St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland.

 

The number of special events in our community continues to build, and there is a lot of interest surrounding the Eclipse that will occur in April. We hope you and your family are able to attend some or all of these Washington County events. 


‍33rd Annual Sugarbush Maple Syrup Festival Final Weekend - March 2nd & 3rd

 

Don't miss the final weekend of the LM Sugarbush Maple Syrup Festival.

 

LM Sugarbush, LLC is a 140 acre farm located in Salem. Established in 1981 as Leane and Michael’s Sugarbush, the family owned operation is host to the annual Maple Syrup Festival.  

 

The farm produces around 1000 gallons of pure maple syrup every February and March for this festival and for distribution. This is one of the premier events in Washington County annually. 


Enjoy delicious pancakes and waffles, maple BBQ, wine and spirits, live music, tours of the farm, craft and food vendors as well as many activities and games.

 



Eclipse Theme Movie Showing at the John Hay Center Grounds -  March 2nd

The John Hay Center invites you to the second of their eclipse themed movies. The film will be free to the public, donations appreciated. The film is set to start at 7:00PM at the Amphitheater. If weather doesn’t permit, the film will be shown at The Depot.

 

The Watcher in the Woods is a 1980 American movie produced by the Walt Disney Company.

 

Watcher in the Woods tells the story of a teenage girl and her little sister who become encompassed in a supernatural mystery regarding a missing girl in the woods surrounding their new home in the English countryside.


 

 


‍Lenten Season Friday Fish Fry Dinners - Fridays through March 22nd

‍St. Patrick's Catholic Church invites you to celebrate the Lenten season with a Friday Fish Fry Dinner. 

Beginning Friday, February 16, through March 22. Starting at 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

 

Fish dinner includes fish, choice of 2 sides, and dessert. 

 

St. Patrick's Catholic Church is located at 208 S. Shelby Street in Salem Indiana.


‍Goat Milk Caramels - March 5th

‍The Washington County Goat Association and Purdue Extension invites you to a Goat Milk Caramel Making educational session with Heidi Potter.

 

Heidi is the owner of Summer Solstice Farms and a Purdue Extension - Clark Co Educator. Heidi will demonstrate how she makes caramels using goat milk from her farm.  

 

The event begins at 6:30pm at the Washington County Government Building. 

 

The program is free, however please RSVP by March 1st to 812-883-4601.




‍7th Annual Awareness Washington Co. Chili Cook-Off - March 9th

‍The Awareness Washington County Board of Directors announced that the 7th Annual Chili Cook Off will be held again this year on March 9 from 4:00- - 7:00pm at Southern Hills Church.


The popular community event will feature a variety of chilis, homemade desserts at auction, children’s activities, a silent auction and the always popular bag raffles.


The cook off offers cash prizes for the judged best red chili, best judged white chili, best decorated booth and the People’s Choice winner.



‍‍A Taste of Lamb Event - March 15th

‍The Washington County Sheep Association invites you to attend an evening of fellowship including a complete meal of locally grown lamb dishes. This event will feature a lamb cook-off where attendees will vote for their favorite lamb dish. 


Event cost is $10 per person. Please RSVP by Friday, March 8th to 812-883-4601. 


The Event will be held at Southern Hills Church located at 1645 S. St. Rd 135 in Salem. 


Huckster's Hall Spring Fling - March 16th

‍Make plans to stop by Huckster's Hall Spring Fling Event on March 16th from 11:00am - 5:00pm. 

 

Huckster's Hall Flea Market provides a variety of Antiques, vintage items, primitives, new and used goods. Something for everyone!

 

Huckster's Hall Flea Market is located at 210 Mulberry Street in Salem. 

 



‍Afternoon Tea and Dessert at the Stevens Memorial Museum - March 17th

‍Make plans to attend a special afternoon of tea and treats at the Steven's Memorial Museum. The event will explore their newest exhibit of historical clothing and quilts from the 19th and 20th centuries. Guest speaker Mary Figueroa, Curator of History at the Indiana State Museum, will give closer insight to the history of such garments and textiles.

‍Monon Mini-Convention and Yard Sale at The Depot - March 23rd

‍The Monon Railroad Historical-Technical Society invites you to attend the third annual Monon mini convention at The Depot. 

 

The doors open at 9:00am and include presentations on Monon history, door prizes a yard sale and more. The yard sale will include HO models, back issues of The Hoosier Line magazine and much more. 

 

Make plans to attend this wonderful event about the legacy of The Monon Line. 



S‍ome Special Events Coming in April - Mark Your Calendars

Solar Eclipse Guest Speaker - Ret. Brig. General David Vesper - April 6th

‍Join The John Hay Center as they welcome Retired Brig. General David Vesper on the process and significance of solar eclipses.

 

Dr. Vesper is a highly decorated veteran, and received his Bachelors of Mathematics & Physics, and a Masters in Astronomy and Strategic Studies, as well as a PhD in Astrophysics. 

 

The event is scheduled to begin at 3:00pm at The Depot Railroad Museum in Salem.


‍Murder & Mayhem Walking Tour - April 5th - 7th

‍Washington County Theatre invites you to a a guided walking tour around Salem square detailing the ghastly past events that still haunt the locations today.

 

Tour not recommended for children under 10 years of age. Tour fee is $15 per person.

 

Tours Meet at the Salem Apothecary. Reservations Required
